About Us

What is Corallium?

Corallium is a non-profit organization kickstarted and led by students of Yew Chung International School (YCIS).

We aim to practice and promote the ethical growth of corals to reduce the market share of illegally harvested coral, as well as reef conservation through collaboration with various external organizations. Our mission is to contribute constructively to the vulnerable reef community of Hong Kong and to promote the conservation of coral and marine environments on a local, and eventually national, and international scale.

Who Founded Corallium?

Corallium was the brainchild and vision of Hiroto Maekawa and Aowyn Lam, secondary students from Yew Chung International School (YCIS).

Our founders’ passion for all things marine and earnest concern for the one-of-a-kind marine ecosystems within their local community bade them to form Corallium in conjunction with a group of like-minded peers (see Our Team below). As avid divers, Hiroto and Aowyn are acutely aware of the need to cherish and preserve Hong Kong’s vulnerable reef ecosystems. Currently comprised of a team of students with diverse skills and talents, Corallium hopes to become a local, national, and even global initiative for marine ecological conservation and achieve its founders’ vision.
